| Our
Mission
|
| It is the mission
of the Bellingham Figure Skating Club
to support each member in attaining
his or her own goals in recreational,
individual and team skill development
by striving to provide supportive,
safe, affordable figure skating resources
in our community. We actively endorse
membership in US Figure Skating and
serve as a liaison between our membership
and the association. |
|
 |
Promoting
Figure Skating in Our Community |
| We provide skaters
with the opportunity to participate
in an individual sport, while also
being a member of a group. We promote
team support through organized social
events, testing and competitions.
We provide opportunities to increase
a skater’s participation in the sport
allowing them to test their skills
through USFS sanctioned tests and
compete with other USFS-tested skaters
at similar skill levels.
We provide our skaters with opportunities
to perform in our Annual Winter Show
and our Fall and Spring recitals. |
|
 |
| Membership
and Dues |
| |
Membership is on an annual
basis, starting July 1st, running through
June 30th. Membership includes registration
with US Figure Skating and entitles each
member to participate in all of our club
programs.
The cost of annual membership in the Bellingham
Figure Skating Club (BFSC) can be found
on the club membership form. This fee not
only provides club membership but also United
States Figure Skating Association (USFSA)
membership. USFSA membership allows our
members to compete in USFSA sanctioned events.
Club members are provided access to instruction
from BFSC professionals and ice time purchased
by the club. Ice time rental costs $220
an hour depending on which rink is used
and the time of day.
Fees that are charged to club members
for ice time vary depending on the current
agreement with the Sportsplex and the type
of program managed by BFSC for its ice time.

Programs |
| |
Winter Show: This is the clubs largest
annual fundraiser to support our programs.
We design this show to entertain the local
community with the talents of our club skaters.
Spring Recital: This is an opportunity for
all club members to perform a solo for family
and friends. The Spring Recital will be
held in May 2007.
Monday Night Ice: The club purchases ice
time for our skaters to use as a practice
session. We offer Monday Night Ice from
September through June, and each session
begins with a group stroking session lead
by one of our professional Figure Skating
Coaches.
Adult Program: This is a new program this
year. The club purchases ice on Thursday
mornings for our adult skaters, and each
session includes practice time, as well
as lessons from one of our professional
Figure Skating Coaches.
Social Events: The club organizes various
social events for the skaters and families
to get together as a group, both at the
rink and away from the rink. This could
range from a pot luck dinner to a swimming
party to participation in the Ski to Sea
parade.
Gear Swap: Each year the club organizes
an event to sell your used skating clothes
or skates and purchase some new-to-you items
from other club members. |

Background and History |
| |
The Bellingham Figure Skating Club (BFSC),
chartered in 1993, comprises a group of
ice skaters, sanctioned by the Unites States
Figure Skating Association. The Club offers
programs for those seeking an excelled learning
experience on the ice. The Club provides
access to professional instructors and the
opportunity to skate competitively.
BFSC is a non-profit corporation and is
admimistered by nine elected volunteer board
members. All board members are parents or
club members over the age of eighteen. Board
members can be contacted
either by phone or by email.
BFSC has approximately 70 members from Whatcom,
Skagit, and Island counties, as well as
British Columbia. BFSC purchases ice-time
that allows our skaters to have private
lessons with professional coaches.
We currently purchase 1.5 hours of ice
time per week on Mondays. This year our
Club is starting a new adult program on
Thursday morning from 8-9 a.m. Please contact
Sara Williams regarding Monday program.
Please contact Herb Fine regarding adult
program.
We welcome new members and especially encourage
young persons who are involved in the "Learn
to Skate" programs to join our club. |

I
take group lesson and/or private lessons.
Am I already a member of the Bellingham
Figure Skating Club? |
| |
If you, or your skater, are taking group
lessons, you are doing so through the Sportsplex
Skating Academy. If you are taking private
lessons, this is an arrangement between
you and your private coach. In order to
be a member of the Bellingham Figure Skating
Club (BFSC), you must complete our new member
packet and pay the annual club dues. |

 |
What is the difference
between the Bellingham Figure Skating Club
and the Sportsplex Skating Academy? |
| |
The BFSC is a club sanctioned by US Figure
Skating. We are a 501(3)(c) non-profit volunteer-run
organization whose purpose is to support
and build awareness of figure skating in
our community.
Skaters choose to become members of the
club if they would like to skate competitively
or simply become more involved in skating
and participate in the social and recreational
events the club has to offer.
The Bellingham Sportsplex Skating Academy
(BSSA) offers the Learn To Skate program,
freestyle skating sessions and other programs
as determined by the Skating Director. See
the Sportsplex
for additional information. |
